A professional customer welcome on an automated phone system is very important for the image of the whole company. That's why it's worth making sure it contains the information callers actually need.
A phone greeting must have
Greet the caller and state the name of the company they've reached. Depending on the type of business, you can say hello formally or more casually, for example "Good morning, this is ABC" or "Hi! This is ABC - the best toys for kids".
Then inform the caller about the available options: ask them to hold, or indicate which number to press on their phone to reach the support that will help with their query. If you record calls with your customers, remember to inform them of this before connecting them to an employee! Informing callers is a legal requirement.
Don't have an idea for your own phone greeting? Use ready-made greeting scripts!
